Toward an ethical family therapy - a study of Browning and Nagy

The President of the International Academy of Practical Theology, Prof Donald Browning has been writing books and articles for over a decade regarding the problem of globalisation and the family in American and international contexts. As director of the Religion, Culture and Family Project at the University of Chicago, Browning has been exploring and explicating issues surrounding the challenges facing the postmodern family in the new millennium. The thesis of this article is that Browning's personal writings amount to a kind of ethical family therapy which he has developed for families in a global context. In support of this thesis, the author of this article has compared the ethical family therapy of Browning with that of the renowned pioneer of ethical family therapy, Boszormenyi-Nagy. The author concludes that the similarity and compatibility of their thought is striking to say the least. This comparison also helps the reader to understand Browning's thought in a new way.
